Bruneau, Paredes-Troughton, Johal, Khangura, Soroke and Zhang Bring Home the Bling in Kamloops

June 20, 2022

Forty-five Delta Sungod Swim Club Swimmers were in Kamloops this weekend for the Kamloops Classics’ Thompson Rivers University Long Course Invitational and the group did not disappoint.  Whether the swimmers were there for new qualifying times, to break club records, win a favourite event or take in their very first Long Course swim meet, everyone walked away with a great experience.

The weekend’s performances were capped off with a great top 3 finish from the club in the overall points category.  DSSC’s coaching staff were so thrilled to see everyone contribute to the team’s progress in many different ways.  With swimmers being asked to stay for finals and lend their spirit and voices, the pool deck and stands were packed with Delta.

“It is just as great to see swimmers step up on the pool deck to lead cheers, or congratulate their team-mates as it is to see gold medal swims in the pool.  The coaching staff always asks swimmers how they contribute to their team’s successes,” says Head Coach Kurt Murphy.

Swimmers achieving one-hundred percent personal bests s this weekend with no disqualifications were:
Abdulrahman Alhassan (13), Dev Bagal (13), Jannat Bhangu (13), Grace Bruneau (12), Mia Bruneau (10), Colbie Deeg (11), Joshua Dhesi (13), Kaia Hall (10), Gia Johal (13), Manraj Johal (13), Arwin Khangura (10), Oliver Lee (9), Madelyn Paredes-Troughton (12), Monica Paredes-Troughton (9), Harleen Rai (14), Riya Rai (11), Tia Retel (14), Sarlett Ruiz Nowell (14), Gurshaan Sangha (13), Arnav Sharma (15), Rebecca Soroke (13), Gabriella Wang (11), Emma Zhang (10).

DSSC swimmers broke club records as well, with Long Course Relay records falling in the 11-12 Girls 200 Freestyle Relay (Madelyn Troughton-Paredes, Grace Bruneau, Emma Zhang, Gabrielle Wang), 15 & Over 200 Medley Relay (Chloe MerEdith-Jensen, Kayah Apanowicz, Rebecca Soroke, Jada Evans), 13-14 Boys Medley Relay (Manraj Johal, Gurshaan Sangha, Abdulrahman Alhassan, Armaan Lalli), Girls 11-12 Medley Relay (Gabrielle Wang, Grace Bruneau, Madelyn Paredes-Troughton, Emma Zhang).  As well, two individual records were broken:  Madelyn Paredes-Troughton broke the girls 11-12 50m Breaststroke, and Emma Zhang broke the girls’ 10 & Under 50 freestyle.

Delta swimmers were exciting to watch in their final and consolation final swims during the evening.  Swimmers who achieved a top 8 or top 16 placing in their event had the opportunity to re-swim the event in the evenings for a better placing and a better time.
